Frequently asked questions

General questions about working with Techpedia. Each service page also has answers specific to that work.

Working with us

How do I start a project with you?
Send a short description through the quote form. We’ll reply by email with questions, and if it looks like a good fit, we’ll suggest a call.
Do you work with businesses outside London?
Yes. We focus on London and work with businesses across the UK. Most project work is done remotely, with regular calls and shared tools.
Can I call you?
We take enquiries through the contact form rather than by phone, and reply by email. For a new project, the quote form is the best start, because it gives us the details we need to give you a useful answer.
Can you work with our in-house developers?
Yes. We can fit in with your repositories, tools and reviews, adding capacity or specific skills to your team.

Cost and contracts

How much will my project cost?
It depends on scope, so we quote once we understand the work. Our guides on website, app and custom software costs set out published UK ranges and what affects them.
Do you offer fixed prices?
For well-defined work, yes. For less certain projects, we usually suggest a short discovery phase first so that any estimate is reliable.
Should I share my budget?
Please do, even if it’s only a range. It helps us tell you what’s realistic, and doesn’t mean we’ll simply spend all of it.

Ownership and data

Who owns the code?
Our expectation for custom work is that you do, and that should be written into the contract. Domains, hosting, repositories and store accounts should be in your name as well.
Can I move to another supplier later?
You should be able to. We use mainstream technology and document our work so that another competent team can take over.
How do you handle personal data?
We design around UK GDPR, including access controls and sensible retention. Where we process personal data for you, we’d put a data processing agreement in place.

After launch

Do you provide support after launch?
Yes. Security updates, monitoring and improvements can be covered by a maintenance arrangement that we’d agree with you up front.
Can you take over a system built by someone else?
Yes. We start with a review of the code and setup, then give you a written, prioritised view of what we found.
